2012 Progress and Beyond

FMS continued to build on our double-digit earnings growth in 2011 with a robust 16% increase in pre-tax earnings during 2012. Our lease fleet increased by 1,400 vehicles and our contract maintenance fleet grew by 2,500 vehicles. In August 2012, FMS acquired Euroway Group Ltd., a commercial truck leasing, maintenance and fleet management provider in Bedfordshire, England. The newest addition to our FMS operation primarily serves the southern part of the U.K. and adds to our base of contractual, blue chip customers. FMS growth has also been driven by improvements in our sales and marketing infrastructure, upgrades to our IT platform, new maintenance offerings, and broadening our natural gas network. In the used vehicle area we saw continued strong demand and solid pricing.

In 2013, continued margin improvement and driving additional fleet outsourcing are our top priorities. Maintenance cost benefits driven by a newer lease fleet are expected to continue to increase FMS margins in 2013. The addressable truck market of private and for-hire fleets includes four million vehicles that currently do not outsource services provided by Ryder. We’re focused on leveraging significant market trends as well as sales and marketing initiatives to further penetrate this opportunity.

At Ryder, our dedication to innovation is ongoing. This year, we will expand our maintenance offering to address a broader range of customer needs and market opportunities, including the creation of flexible maintenance offerings for large fleets. These services provide managers of large fleets with one-stop shop capabilities for efficient, fleet management.
